Just finished Sam Wagstaff: Before and After Mapplethorpe – A Biography by Philip Gefter. Fascinating to learn about the way that the development of a photography market really only began in the 1970s and was almost entirely an American affair. London today resembles New York before Wagstaff: vintage photography is still the underdog. The subtitle was presumably a marketing ploy as Wagstaff’s relationship with Mapplethorpe is the least interesting part of this book.
